Task 7

No matter where we live ,we can hear the phrase” the strawberry generation” from time to time, from the newspaper, the magazine or the news reported. When it comes to the strawberry generation, it must something about negative comments. Perhaps, in some way, the youngsters who were born after 1980 are really not as diligent, perseverant and endurable as the older generations. Nevertheless, it cannot totally blame the youngsters, the family and parents also should take some charge. Now, owing to the low birth rate, many families almost only have one baby or two babies. In this way, parents must put all love and protection for their one child or two kids, fearing their children are being hurt. Consequently, parents almost take over all things from their children, making their children spoiled. When children are grown in less stressful and being overprotected by their parents, they naturally think the outside world must about the same their home life patterns. In this way, they are referred as the strawberry generation. Besides just like the article mentioned Taiwan’s economical prosperity, young people have to face the long hours, low pay and job insecurity.
Hence, by the birthday to measure each youngster is not an appropriate way. Not all young people are what we call “the strawberry generation.” There still have many young people are passionate about their life and their job. To the job, they have abundant creativity and innovation; to the life, they are more aggressive and open-minded to everything.
They also try to hard work and make some modification to change common people’s viewpoint to younglings. I was born in 1991 but I will try to hard work and prove that I am not what so called “the strawberry generation.”

  1. In the view of baby boom, the generation of 60s and 70s are “X generation”. The characteristics of the X generation teenagers in England are "sleep together before they are married, were not taught to believe in God as 'much', dislike the Queen, and don't respect parents," (Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_X) The descriptions include nagtive impressions toward X generation. They were lazy, depend on their parents and didn’t respect their parents. However, many of the X gene are boss or own a company and have done well in their position. More than ten billionaires are on the list of Forbees Rich List 2009. (http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=480406&in_page_id=2) The founder of Google is also in the list. In Taiwan, the boss of 裕隆 is also a X gene. Others might think that Mr. 嚴 was given bith with a gold spoon. However, to manage a company like 裕隆 is not so easy. The impression of someone is the first sight, but that might juders’ prejudice.

“ Strawberry generation” was a term use in Taiwan. Many country use Y gene to call this generation. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strawberry_generation) Those kids were brought up by the protection of their families and the whole society. Many people crticize that this generation were lack of competition. However, in my observation, many freshman in the society are enthusiastic toward their life and work. Like Ms. 柯and Mr. 詹, they both own their company or their houses and on their road to success.( Smart magazine, No. 134 and No136) You might think that they couldn’t compare to X generation. But youth is their capital and no one can predit what would happen to those ambitious freshmen.

Judging from this two younger’s description. One thing the author would like to share with the readers. Both of them are not come from very rich families. The features of this two are independent and matured in their early age. They both have realistic dream and work hard to make their dream come true. The advantage of this generation was their curiosity and curiosity is the foundation of invention. When it comes to their turn to manage the whole world, you might find the serendipity for the whole world.
